July 10-12, 2001 - Bangkok, Thailand

| Cloudy days at Kho Tao before I left |
After arriving in Bangkok, I found a place to sleep late in the night for 150B. It only had a fan but it was enough for the night since it wasn't extremely hot. I tried to check into a air-conditioned room the next day and changed my mind decided to treat myself and stay in another hotel with much cleaner and better facilities, but I had to have the yelling match of my life with the first place that I paid for to get some of my money back.
I thought I was going to get physical with the lady behind the desk. She was yelling at me at top of her lungs and I was doing the same thing, I never used the F word so many times and so loud in my life. She stared at me with bulging eyes and that typical Bitchy Asian Woman look. It was a good stress relief I guess and I finally went to the other hotel and checked in after getting 75% of my money back.
After checking in, I went to the hospital to get my legs checked and see if I had anything else, and it turned out that I also got Dengue Fever. I had all the symptoms - lack of appetite, light headed, nausea, vomit feeling and generally tired. I wasn't supposed to be taking ibuprofen also so I stopped that.
The thing is that I had it for more than 5 days so the worst and most dangerous part's been over and I've been steadily getting my appetite back already. I went back to the hotel to rest after that and generally did just a little bit of walking, shopping, eating, and then back to the hotel room to sleep.
The good thing about Dengue Fever is that it was only contagious in the first 5 days or so and can only be transmitted by a mosquito bite. And once it's over, the infected person is then immune to that strain of the virus. There are 4 strains of the virus.
