The beach at the resort - between Cairns and Port Douglas, Australia
I arrived at The Resort early this morning and waited for a while before getting settled. I'm sharing a bungalow with Jean-Pierre, a French guy also working here. He's a friendly enough sort of chap, very unFrench-like.
The bungalow is nice enough where I have my own queen size bed and we share a kitchen and bath. I met some of the staff members and had lunch with them. The free lunch of the day was fish and chips but it was more fancy than any other ones I've ever had before. The afternoon I spent lounging around and not doing much but I knew it'd get busy later on. The beach was nice and the water was warm.
Marc, the chef introduced to me the various tasks I'm responsible for in the kitchen and off I went. It was fairly busy and I started at 5 and didn't finish until after 9:30. These idiots can sure eat a lot. The all you can eat buffet style food was just not conducive to a dishwasher. It's been a long time since I worked that hard and at such a pace. I chilled out in the hot tub after that and slept soundly until the alarm clock next morning.

Babs, Christian, Jason and Mandy, Jean-Phillipe at the resort, Australia
The alarm went off at 6:30 and I was back in the dining area by 7. I worked with Jason today, a youngish looking skinny fellow who was pleasant enough to work with. The tasks in the morning was a bit easier than in the evening. Basically, we just make sure the utensils and food are out there for people to use and eat.
After they eat, we then go around the tables and put their dishes away. It's better in two ways - one is that it's a less hectic task then in the evening, and the other is that it allows me to interact with the customers. The customers were not much to see though - a bit scary in the morning actually.
I eventually knocked off at 9:30 and went back to the room for a nap before getting up for lunch. After lunch, I lounged around the grounds for a while before heading back in the room. I didn't feel comfortable hanging around the grounds for some reason. Dinner was at 5:30 and I started the cycle again at 6:00.

Kirsten and Colin, Marc, Jo and Kirsten, the resort, Australia
The days just went by quickly. The daily work task became routine and I actually miss it a little bit when I wasn't working. I guess it would've been more interesting if the clientele changes but it didn't so it was good that I wasn't working during the day. The nice beach, warm water, and sunny weather made the stay very enjoyable.
I became friends with a lesbian couple named Jo and Kirstin. They were fun and would've been fun to hang out with and be friends with had we been living in the same area. I also befriended Jason, Marc the Chef, and Colin a Chef assistant in the kitchen.
Jean-Phillipe got his chest shaved on the last night - it auctioned for $225 to a charity and he's going to be itching for the next few days. It's a good thing that I'm moving on. I liked it here but then again, I felt like I didn't belong. It's weird.
