Beach at the resort between Cairns and Port Douglas, Australia
I caught the bus for Port Douglas today and headed out late morning. By the time the bus dropped me off at (name of resort withheld). I don't think I was doing anything illegal, just doing work in exchange for room and board, but just in case... so there's no trouble with the immigration officials. It was early afternoon. I met the manager and he told me that I could do dishes for 3 hours per night and a breakfast shift in exchange for my room and board.
The grounds ARE very nice though and I pretty much have free time all day to do what I like. The manager eventually took me to Port Douglas because he had to go there anyway.

Archer Fish swimming in the harbor at Port Douglas, Australia
The sole of my left foot was killing me for some reason and I could barely walk to the office. I hired a bike and headed into town via the harbor. Once in town, I looked for a place to eat and haircut. I went to the grocery store after that and got some stuff, but was disappointed that they didn't sell any exotic fruits of any sort.

Hammerhead washed up on the shore at Port Douglas, Australia
I took a boxed lunch down to the beach and ate it there, then biked along the 4-mile beach and saw crabs and a washed up dead shark. I took a nap on the beach for a while before heading back, riding through the town again and along the harbor before returning to the hostel.
I bumped into a very tall American guy back at the hostel. I found out that his name is Carrington, but he told people to call him C. He was in marketing but has been traveling for the last 8 months. We went for a drink after that and yakked for a ling while. He told me about a horrible incident happening while she was away in Paris and this was his way to deal with her death. He's living his life to the fullest now because he's been at the lowest point and survived.
It took a tragedy like that to give him a direction in life and gave him the courage for not being afraid of trying things in life. It's interesting how life throws in chance meetings like this to enlighten me and help me as I drift through life.
