I met up with Matt outside my hostel today and we went for a walk doing some errands together. He looked for people to go down south with and picked up his mail and did some emailing while I looked for people going up north with and did some emailing. It was nice spending time with him again but we parted company by noon.
He's heading back to Sydney to sell his car and I'm staying on. I saw an interesting ad for volunteer work at Mareeba Wetlands Reserve but I wanted something closer to the water. That will be my backup plan, although it requires a minimum of 2-week commitment.
I met up with Ronnie and Primo for lunch but we just talked briefly. I wanted to get the errands done and plan out the rest of my trip here so I bid farewell to them. It was a short but nice to travel with them. I saw Joerg for what I hope to be the last time when he interrupted my phone call at a phone booth to ask me if I will be on it for a long time. I said yes and told him to go elsewhere.
I had better luck at the national park office and was given a ranger's name at Fitzroy's Island to contact. I contacted him shortly afterward and will be going there early tomorrow morning for a trial day.
