| Matt and the injured dog (the dog looks very mean in the picture for some reason), Queensland, Australia |
We finally started making our way up north again and went to Alam Zoo. Right before we even pulled up to the entrance, as soon as Joerg found out there's a fee for the zoo, he just said "you guys go in, I will wait in the car". He said that about all the places that required any sort of fee. It turned out that it costs A$18 for us to get in, which we thought was pretty expensive so we left anyway. On the ramp to the highway, a limping dog looked at us with a very pitiful set of eyes.
I'm ashamed to admit that I probably wouldn't have but Matt stopped the car to help the animal. He's truly a pretty nice guy - and one of the most easy going guy I've ever met. The way he very diplomatically dealt with Joerg made me strive to be a little more tolerant. We tried to take the dog back to the zoo while Caroline and Joerg waited by the highway but the zoo couldn't take them. We had to bring the dog back to Brisbane.
Since the dog required lying on the backseat, 2 people had to stay. The zoo offered us to go in for free while the others take care of the dog. Joerg and I ended up going back to Brisbane. I was surprised that Joerg came along but he told me he wasn't interested in the zoo. He's been breaking the car pretty hard whenever we came up on a yellow light in the past, and today was no exception. At the first time he stomped on it, the dog fell forward onto the floor whimpering, falling on its broken leg.
Joerg looked back and said the dog would be OK but I made him stop the car so I could move the dog back up again. I yelled at him and told him not to drive like a maniac. The lady at the animal emergency place was pretty nice and took the dog in but I don't know what will happen to him. We went back to the zoo and wandered around for a while before meeting up with Matt and Caroline again.
After the zoo, we went to Bribie Island and couldn't find camping so we went toward Glass Mountains instead and started driving into the woods. We didn't know where we were but camped out in the woods in the middle of nowhere, probably on somebody's private land. Joerg and I got a little spatty because he was being a dork as always. He's gonna push me too far one of these days. So much for trying to be more tolerant.

| Matt and Caroline looking pukingly cute at the fire, Glass Mountains, Queensland, Australia |
After eating dinner - Joerg cooked some rice / tuna / scallion dish - it was good so at least he was good for something (heh...). We camped out and made a small fire, listened to music, chatted and watched the stars for a while. Caroline integrated with the group fairly well and it was nice to have her along. It drizzled on and off and eventually, we all went to sleep.
