February 12, 2001 Monday - Dunedin

| Steep road I ran up - you can barely see the Magic Bus waiting down at the bottom, New Zealand |
On the way to Dunedin, we passed by the steepest street in New Zealand. For some reason, I got the urge to run up the street and by the time I got to the top, my head was pounding. We also stopped by a beach with some naturally eroded round rocks, and then some small lakes where it was calm like a mirror - hence the name, mirror lakes.

Patrick and I checked into Dunedin mid afternoon at about 3. Stu's driving and commentaries left much to be desired. We got dropped off at the Elm Lodge hostels and checked in. Our rooms were actually in a different house called "Elm Lodge Too" and it was just a block away.

The Elm Lodge Too is a house with a dorm room and two other bedrooms. The standard bathroom, kitchen, washer/dryer, living were present, but it was very homely feeling and quiet. It was as if Patrick and I rented a flat for our own.
I went back after that and talked to Patrick for a while. While getting ready for bed, I was brushing my teeth in the kitchen and noticed some lights flashing across the field at another house. I took out my torch and flashed them a few times, in which they acknowledged by flashing back again and flashing their house lights. We played this game for a few minutes before Patrik came over to see what's going on.
I dared Patrik to moon them and he climbed on top of the kitchen sink, stuck his butt toward the window and pulled his pants down and wiggled. We turned our lights off quickly and giggled like it was the funniest thing we've seen for a while. We couldn't stop laughing for a while and when we looked across the field again, the other kids were giving us fingers and making other obscene gestures.
Patrik mooned them again and we hid in the dark for a while while these kids came out of their house to patrol around. I don't even know why Patrik and I were hiding because these kids couldn't be more than 14 and even if there were 4 of them, we still could've easily kicked their ass. We went to bed after that.
