February 5, 2001 Monday - Nelson to Greymouth
 |
| Unidentified bird, New Zealand |
We left Nelson that morning and headed to Greymouth. The weather turned for the worst and it was gray and cloudy most of the day. We stopped by Cape Foulwind Seal Colony to view some birds and a seal colony on an interesting rock formation along the shore.

| Patrik eating a rotten banana, New Zealand |
Patrick got hungry and found some semi-rotted bananas that he's been carrying for the past week - he ate it anyway... ewwww....
 |
| Paparoa National Park Pancake Rocks, New Zealand |
We also stopped by Paparoa National Park and walked the Truman Track through a temperate rainforest to see the pancake rocks along the way, which is another rock formation that looked like stacks of pancakes. There was a blowhole there but it didn't blow. By this time, it was raining steadily. We checked into our hostel in Greymouth and went out to the local pub to have a cheap A$3 all-you-can-gorge BBQ meal.
Lizmore, an Israeli girl who's been popping in and out of our bus followed us to the pub and sat with us for the meal. She was definitely strange and she was starting to tell us about her work at a farm back in Israel.
She was telling us she managed 300 cows on the farm and sometimes, she has to stick her finger through the hole of the pregnant cow to check for the calf and sometimes she would stick it in the wrong hole. She calls it "the hole of shit" and she said sometimes, she'll grope around and it'll be a while until she realized that she was in the wrong hole.
She was telling us all this with a straight face and was serious through this whole conversation and it had Patrick, Nick, and I in stitches as we listen to her. We were all cackling and giggling afterward and she didn't know what we were laughing about.
