Welcome to my Indonesia page.
Rice paddies, temples, fighting roosters and bamboo forests. Every other person asking if you want taxi, sarong, tatoo, massage, painting, or necklace. Endless stalls of tourist trinkets, cartel of people trying to rip off the tourist. You decide which group belongs to the good, the bad, and the ugly.
One of the biggest regret I had was that I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the terraced rice paddies.
$ - US$1 = about 1000 Indonesian Rupiah
The best and worst of Indonesia. Note that this is my personal opinion and I only had limited exposure to the country. If there are any other categories you would like me to list, please send me an email.
| Places to eat (on a backpacker's budget): | Best: Cheap, large plates of Nasi Goreng or Nasi Mei for only $1! Available in most towns / restaurants.
Worst: Don't try to buy any western food like pizza and such from a clearly Indonesian restaurant. |
| Places to get smashed/drunk/pissed: | Beer's cheap aplenty - didn't party too much though.. |
| Hostel: | Best: Most hotels are half decent for only US$4-10 for a double. Scout before you buy.
Worst: There can be some dodgy places - usually when you start to walk away, they drop the price down to about US$2. |
| Activity: | Best: Exploring the rice terrace surrounding Ubud on food.
Worst: Dealing with anybody in town at the bottom of the Agungun volcano. |
| Scenery: | Best: Same as activity above. |
| Chilling Out:: | Best: Same as activity above. |
| Danger: | None that I can think of, except losing your temper on the natives. |
