| One Foot Island (Aitutaki), Cook Islands - January 18, 2001 |
Welcome to my Cook Islands page.
As before, click on a picture to see a larger version.
Where is it? - The cooks is located about 5.5 hours flight directly south of the Hawaiian Islands. It's in the Pacific. Please check a world map if you have no clue where anything is.
$ - Cook Islands uses the same currency as New Zealand. When I visited, US$1 = NZ$2.3 (NZ$1 = US$0.43)
The best and worst of the Cook Islands. Note that this is my personal opinion and I only had limited exposure to the islands. If there are any other categories you would like me to list, please send me an email.
| Places to eat (on a backpacker's budget): | Best: Cafe right at the central bus station. Fresh filled rolls with chicken breast and salad for NZ$3.50 (US$1.55) (Rarotonga); Lunch with the Safari Tour ($? Part of the NZ$55 lagoon tour) (Aitutaki)
Worst: 2 minute noodles from the stores. (Rarotonga); Crusher Bar Island Buffet - NZ$25 (Includes amatuerish dance) (Aitutaki) |
| Places to get smashed/drunk/pissed: | Do I look like a Brit? :) - Well, maybe the Banana Court on Rarotonga. |
| Activity: | Best: Hiking the Cross-Island trail (Rarotonga); Lagoon Tour (Aitutaki); Also worth doing: bike around the island for both Rarotonga and Aitutaki.
Worst: Island Night Dance and Buffet at the Crusher Bar. (Aitutaki) |
| Scenery: | Best: Bike around the island (Rarotonga); Lagoon Cruise (Aitutaki) |
| Chilling Out:: | Best: Hovering above the coral reef (Rarotonga); Hovering about the giant clams (Aitutaki) |
| Danger: | Some mozzies on both islands; Nesting Picasso Triggers (especially in the Muri Lagoon) - their bites can be nasty. |
