January 14, 2001 Sunday - Rarotonga, Cook Islands

| One of the many trails on Rarotonga - Rarotonga, Cook Islands |
Most of the town and stores were closed today but the islanders gathered for Sunday church. I missed it but from what I heard, it's something that shouldn't be missed while you're on the Cooks. People sing gospel songs and they invite you to a brunch after that.
I rode my push bike into town and returned it to the rental place. There's bus service on Sunday but only once every 2 hours and I just missed it. I thought about walking home but decided to try my luck on hitching. I got a ride on the very first car (it took less than 30 seconds)! It was a family from Belgium and we rode back while I chit chatted with their daughter in the back of the car.
I went for another snorkeling trip in the lagoon and then went back for more card games. By this time, I already got to know most of the people in the hostel, including a Spanish couple. Even though I didn't do much today, it was still a fun full day.

| Cute little gekco in AreMango - Rarotonga, Cook Islands |
Side note: There are a lot of cute gekcos here on the Cooks. They make a chirping sound at night and you can often see them attacking moths and large cockroaches at night. Here's a little baby one that hopped onto my hand.
