Bermuda Day, 2000
Another Bermuda day and I was up a bit later than usual to watch the Half Marathon on Harbour Road. By the time I went up to the road to watch the runners, the lead runner was already running through the City of Hamilton. I snapped some pictures and watched the runners for a while before I headed back down to the apartment to pack for the boat ride.
Richard and Jeff pulled up to my dock in a whaler and we headed off to paradise Lake to sun for a while. paradise Lake is a calm section of the water surrounded by more than half dozens of small islands in the harbour. Many boats dock there on both weekdays and weekends just hang out and enjoy the water and sceneries.
We hung out for a while and then went to Darrell's Warf to pick up Kerry. We passed by "downtown" where the floats, Gombey Troops, and majorettes marched down Front Street. Richard then drove toward St. David's at a bone-jarring pace as we bounced from wave to wave. We passed through the opening between Hamilton Parish and St. George's Island and through a channel into St. George's Harbour. Many boats already gathered here and the Modified Dinghy Race was already in progress.
After a lazy afternoon of just hanging around watching the boats, we headed back to paradise Lake until dusk. Richard and Jeff jumped into the frigid 77 degree water and swam for a while. It was a beautiful dusk around paradise Lake indeed, where we saw the Longtails gliding in and out of their cave nests and a sea turtle popped the surface briefly before taking a dive into the deep. Amist a burst of orange and fiery sunset, the Bermuda tree frogs started their nightly chorus that echoed clearly across the open water. All in all, it was another nice Bermuda experience that shouldn't be missed.
