Why?
Because I want to see the world. I want to be able to experience different cultures, try out different foods, meet people and see sights that I've only seen on TV or read in the past. To explore this bio-diverse planet of ours and help out with environmental organizations along the way. I also want to find a place where I can eventually settle down. I'm not getting any younger so I want to do this before my body gives out! Heh...
How long are you going for?
14 months - and burnt out - next time, will take it even slower!
You must be loaded!
Ummm... no. I'm practical and I've been saving for a while. I stayed in hostels, backpacking and living on the cheap. Anybody can do it - really.
Which camera did you use and how did you keep all those photos?
I used a Sony DSC-S70 to take all my around-the-world photos. It's been discontinued - the latest (as of October, 2003) replacement model, which is highly recommended is the Sony DSC-V1. I usually copy the photos and write my journal on my laptop, which at the time was a Sony SR7X, which is also discontinued. It's a tiny/small laptop, but I got one even smaller than that, just sutible for writing journals and such and copy photos.
What do you do for health insurance?
I got my insurance through Global Medical Insurance which covered me worldwide via an Aetna plan. They were very helpful and friendly - you can look at the various plans via the web site or call them at 800-576-2674.
