USA - American Alligator - Alligator mississippiensis

The American Alligators (Alligator mississippiensis) are pretty much all over the place in South Florida. The Alligators breed in the spring and the females protect the nests and offspring for up to a year. If you see baby alligators, you can be sure the female is nearby.

The Alligator can run up to 30 miles per hour on land. It is illegal in Florida to physically harass an alligator. We verbally harassed and taunted this alligator pictured until it woke up and gave us a hiss. I was able to take a quick snap before running away... quickly...
