10/27/2009 – We hiked the heavy forested trail up to the Te Rua Manga (The Needle) which is 413 meters above sea level. The base of The Needle offers hikers an expansive view of the island, beaches and the ocean beyond. Red-tailed Tropicbird can be seen and heard gliding gracefully and chirping nosily through the lush forest below. A rooster will likely to be waiting for you here to peck at the crumbs of food left by the hikers.
