10/31/2009 – After an uneventful 45 minute flight – even after the pilot put the sunshade on the cockpit window to block out the sun so he can read (but not see out of the window!) – we arrived on the island of Atiu. The island is much more rural than I thought with 2 tiny grocery stores the size of a large bedroom and 2 small café being run out of people’s houses. Since it’s a Saturday, the highlight of our day was to wait for the grocery store to open back up at 5 PM. We went for a hike down to a pond with a large field of Taros and goats butting heads on a palm tree.
